Kgatlana voted African Women’s Player of the Year

South Africa & Houston Dash striker, Thembi Kgatlana, was declared the Women’s Player of the Year at the CAF awards.

The 22-year-old was named Best Player of the tournament during the African Women Cup of Nations, having scored five goals and won three player of the match accolades in a row.

Kgatlana pipped Nigerian duo Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega to the honour and also scored the goal of the year.

South Africa’s Desiree Ellis was Coach of the Year, although her side lost to Nigeria in the AWCON final and it was the Super Falcons who also won the Women’s National Team of the Year award.

Ellis took her award ahead of Joseph Brian Ndoko (Cameroon) and Thomas Dennerby (Nigeria), in a year that she became the first person to win the COSAFA Women’s Championship as both a player and coach.
