Pauline Hamill’s Scotland U-19s today lost their opening UEFA U-19 Championship Elite Round game in Oriam, 2-1 to the Czech Republic.

The first half was goalless but 2 minutes before the break Brogan Hay broke through the heart of the defence, only for her shot to be turned behind for a corner by goalkeeper Katerina Zuchova.

The hosts fell behind on 58 minutes, Eartha Cumings making a great save but unable to keep out the rebound from Kamila Dubcova.

Ellis Notley made a crucial block to stop the Czechs doubling their advantage but after a breakaway move on 75 minutes, Andrea Staskova did get their second.

Scotland got a consolation goal 4 minutes from time, Jamie-Lee Napier latching onto Leah Eddie’s long ball over the top and her deflected shot looped in.

The Scots are back in action early Thursday evening, when they play Italy at Oriam, Scotland’s Sports Performance Centre in Edinburgh.
