Hibs strike twice in last half-hour

Rangers held up Hibs for an hour, before the home side scored twice to remain two points behind the league leaders.

Hibs keeper Jenna Fife made two crucial saves in the first half, tipping a long-range effort from Rachael O’Neill onto the crossbar, before a block in a one-on-one with Lauren Davidson.

The home side had a great chance to score shortly before the break but Rachel McLauchlan was denied when through on goal by a save from Jordyn Elliot.

A Kirsty Smith cross came back off the bar and Siobhan Hunter saw her header cleared off the line, before Hibernian finally broke the deadlock.

Hunter threaded a through ball for Rachel Small to finish calmly past the ‘keeper and 16 minutes later it was 2-0, as Abi Harrison turn her marker to slot into the bottom corner.

Grant and Lauder get doubles for Glasgow

Abbi Grant and Hayley Lauder bagged a brace each in Glasgow City’s 4-0 win over Spartans.

Abbi Grant fired homes from 16 yards out on 16 minutes and City might have had a couple more goals by the interval but Grant’s long-range effort was pushed wide by Rachel Harrison, who also thwarted Katie McCabe.

Grant did get ther second 10 minutes after the restart with a drilled effort from 18 yards.

Spartans were unfortunate not to get back into the game, as a point-blank save from Lee Alexander denied Laura Gavin and McCabe cleared off the line from the resulting corner.

The hosts went on to tie up the points with two Hayley Lauder goals in an eight-minute spell; a powerful low shot beating two defenders and a close-range header.

In-between times, Harrison pulled off a fantastic save from a 20-yard Leanne Ross strike.
